CWP is proud of our greatest asset:  our security personnel.

Recruitment:

The officers we select for CWP are ready and prepared to provide “Accountability, Integrity and Service”.  All of our officers are licensed by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).  We recruit from two pools:  experienced guards and guards-in-training.  We find that former and retired police officers make fine security guards and we also employ veteran security guards with previous private guarding experience.   In addition, we recruit from the thousands of trainees we see each year at our in-house Training Academy.  We only offer employment to the crème of the crop.

Screening:

CWP has an extensive screening process for potential employees.  Applicants for security officer positions must successfully complete:

  • All training and licensing requirements as mandated by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS)
  • A criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local county records
  • An onsite drug test (with results available in 10 minutes)
  • Two separate in-person interviews

To produce an excellent security officer, a number of factors must be in place.  At CWP, we are extremely familiar with the qualities required to excel in this role.  We use our training and interview process to screen for these qualities.

All of our applicants fill out a detailed written application, which is reviewed by our Human Resources Manager.  If the applicant meets our criteria, he or she is invited for an interview with our Operations Manager.  Candidates who pass the first interview then complete a second interview with our Vice President or President.

“We give candidates a written narrative to complete,” says our Operations Manager. “It’s very important how well they write because reports are how they communicate with property managers.”  Guards also need to communicate well verbally.   In addition, we look for factors like a stable employment history and character traits such as honesty and lack of negativity.

Retention:

Anyone who has managed a business knows it’s tricky to balance client needs with employee concerns.  At CWP, client satisfaction is our #1 prerogative.  However, just like clients, employees must be retained for our firm to function effectively.  We have instituted a number of positive measures that keep our security personnel happy, loyal and productive:

Ranking, Recognition and Rewards

We use a computerized ranking system to rate officers bimonthly on several performance criteria.  This competitive, rewards-based system encourages our employees to excel and rewards them for outstanding service.

Promotion from Within

At CWP, we offer a solid career path for deserving individuals. We know it pays to invest in our people and we like to hire and promote from within.  Our varied assignments and ongoing trainings also groom many of our officers for the police force.  We have had many early-career officers begin their professional development at CWP and eventually transition into positions of high responsibility and authority in law enforcement.

Medical Benefits

CWP is a proud member of CALSAGA, the California Association of Licensed Security Agencies, Guards and Associates.  As such, we offer our employees a CALSAGA-sponsored ‘People’s Health Express’ discount card program.  This program provides discounts for medical services at certain healthcare providers.

QUOTES FROM OUR EMPLOYEES:

Our Retention section explains why management considers CWP a great workplace.  But we wanted to find out what our security personnel appreciate about working here.  So our writer wandered around informally and asked the magic question:

Why is CWP a good place to work?

“There’s diversity – a diverse atmosphere.”

“There’s camaraderie – everyone seems to really enjoy being here”

“There’s a family atmosphere.  It’s a pleasant place to work -- warm and fun.”

“They take care of you.  When there’s a problem, you can go right to management.”

“There’s a strong open door policy.  Any employee with issues can go to management and is never turned away”.

“It’s a good place to learn the security business.  If they feel you need to learn it, they’ll teach it to you.”

“They know how to recognize and appreciate good work and promote from within.”

“We go a lot for professionalism and customer service.”

[About CWP’s President] “Randy doesn’t have to interview, but he does most of it, hand-picks them.  We try to hire honest people.  That’s why most of the guards are pretty dang good, because they’re good people.”

We’re glad that our employees are as proud of CWP as we are.
