Technological developments in forensic science now make it possible for fingerprints to be taken electronically.  CWP is an authorized provider of Live Scan, the state-of-the-art, inkless electronic fingerprinting service.  You will find that Live Scan has major advantages over
old-fashioned ink fingerprints:

• No Smudges:  If you have had ink fingerprints taken, you will recall how messy and unpleasant the process is.  Ink fingerprinting also has a relatively low success rate.  Ink smudges easily and illegible prints are rejected.  When this happens, you must repeat the whole fingerprinting process…which means more smudges!  Live Scan, on the other hand, is an advanced, reliable, “no-muss, no-fuss” procedure.
• Quick Results:  From start to finish, Live Scan is a much faster process than ink fingerprinting.  Live Scan fingerprints can be transmitted to the Department of Justice electronically and instantaneously.  Ink fingerprints, on the other hand, must be sent and received via ‘snail mail,’ which can take days or weeks.

Live Scan may be requested for many reasons.  There is no cause to take offense if you are asked to submit to a Live Scan as a condition of your employment or volunteer work.  Most states mandate Live Scan for applicants who wish to work with vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, the physically disabled, the mentally challenged or the mentally ill.  Professions of responsibility often require potential applicants to submit to Live Scan testing.  For instance, you may need a Live Scan if you wish to be a private security officer, a notary public, a teacher, a nurse, an aide, a driving instructor or a real estate agent. 

FEES:

All fees must be paid at the time of your Live Scan fingerprinting.  Some or all of the following fees may apply to you, depending on your requesting agency and the level of service requested:

• Base fee of $20 for CWP Fingerprint Rolling Service

Additional fees:

• $32 Department of Justice Fee
• $19 Federal Bureau of Investigations Fee
• $27 California Social Services Fee (for daycare, elder care, adoption, etc.)
• $20 Firearm Fee

Guarantee:  If we conduct a Live Scan for you and your initial results are rejected for any reason and need to be resubmitted, we will rescan and resubmit them without any further charge to you.

What do I need to bring to my Live Scan?

Please refer to our “What to Bring” section.  According to federal law, we can only offer Live Scan services to applicants who provide the specified forms of I.D.

How long will it take to get my Live Scan?

Please set aside 30 minutes for your Live Scan procedure.  It may take as little as 10 minutes, but the amount of time needed varies slightly from person to person.

Why do the fees for Live Scan vary?

Live Scan fees vary with the level of service required. For instance, if you come to our offices, we charge a standard $20 fee for our rolling fingerprint services.  The Department of Justice adds its own $32 fee for California state clearance.  In addition, if you require an FBI background check, the FBI charges a $19 fee. 

MOBILE LIVE SCAN SERVICE:

CWP will come to your workplace and provide Live Scan service for groups of 10 or more.  Our standard Live Scan fee is $20 per person.  Rates for mobile Live Scan services increase when we serve fewer than 10 people at one location.
